Nobuko Miki (Nobu)

Nobu is a Modern Folk Artist and a Decorative Painter currently residing in Darien, Conn. and born in Tokyo, Japan

Nobu began her career in 1995 when she began training with the Society of Decorative painters in Franklin, Tenn., and in her early years she has  specialized in painting furniture and home accessories.

As a Modern Folk Artist, Nobu has established her own style, “The Folk Art House Portrait,” where she blends folk art charm with modern style.  She has commissioned and painted many houses throughout the country using this style.

Nobu has painted landmarks of Darien and other New England towns. Many of her paintings are in private collections and  have been used by many public and nonprofit organizations. The Darien Chamber of Commerce uses her works for its promotion to revitalize downtown Darien, and the Darien Department of Parks and Recreation has used her artwork on the covers of its brochures. Additionally, the Old Greenwich Art Society, where Nobu is a member and has participated in its juried shows, chose her work to promote their annual show.

Nobu has also contributed to the community by having her works auctioned off in order to raise money.  Many nonprofit organizations such as the Darien Library, the Darien Nature Center, and the Darien High School Football Team, to name a few, have auctioned off her works to raise money. She is one of the most popular artists in Darien.

Her most popular products to date have been her line of Darien products, where she creates note cards, greeting cards, Christmas ornaments and mug cups depicting local landmarks.  They are very popular among Darienites as gifts or keepsakes, and they can be found at the Darien Sport Shop in downtown Darien and Barrett Bookstore in front of the Noroton Heights station.

Nobu is also an instructor and she currently teaches weekly classes.  In the past, she has also taught in Tokyo and NY.
